About the Founder
Khalilah Burt Gaston is a proven leader, skilled strategist, and passionate advocate for inclusive and equitable communities. As a trained urban planner, her work has been featured in Next City, Dwell Magazine, The New York Times, Huffington Post, Chicago Public Radio, and the Harvard Family Research Project.
She served as program officer at one of the country’s largest private, philanthropic foundations where she provided leadership for execution of efforts that spanned education and learning; maternal child health; and work force development. Before that, she held positions in the non-profit and governmental sectors leading community development efforts focusing on real estate development. Khalilah’s leadership and expertise has been critical to the success of initiatives totaling nearly $500 million.
Khalilah is currently the Executive Director of The Song Foundation. The foundation was founded by Dug and Linh Song to invest in innovative people and organizations who are improving the quality of life of people in Southeast Michigan and helping to build a more just and equitable world.
